Frei Paul Otto was a German architect and a structural engineer noted for his use of lightweight structures, in particular the tensile and membrane structures. His swooping, tent-like roof structures are famously cited by leading architects as a significant influence on their own work. Through my project, I would like to continue the investigation of lightweight and tensile structures. With a strong belief that the pavilion would stand all by itself, only relying on its lightweight mesh structure. Besides the external appearance of a light fabric or a steel cover, the pavilion also welcomes the visitors to take a stroll inside it or they can climb up for a view of the urban life. With a combination of materials covering it, pavilion could express the ambiguity of the buildings and plaza, in the mean time, create a resting spot.
