This project is to investigate the problems presented by new residential development in cities like Chicago, especially as it pertains to neighborhood/regional rehabilitation and the need for hybrid zoning conditions. Reveal is found in theatre through narrative developments, visibility of props, and movement on state of sets and actors. To play along with that element of theatre, this project seeks to reveal certain aspects of program as well as circulation and habitation throughout the site. Reveal works on many different scales, aiming to engage the passerby on the street.
As a local performance center, Steppenwolf theater give young dancers to an opportunity to perform. It is a opportunity to introduce the theater culture to the locals by offering better stage performance place. By combining housing and performance space, the residents and artists could have more interactions.
Color palette is corresponding to the unconventional co-housing diagram. Our ambition here is to minimize the sleeping area in traditional living environment. Since nowadays people prefer to throw party at the house and have recreation room at the house, the function of bedrooms is only serving for sleeping. So, in our perspective, maximize communal spaces is more important and suitable for contemporary living style.
